About the role

The Sample Reception Assistant ensures that all incoming laboratory samples are received, logged, and prepared for analysis in accordance with ALS procedures and chain‑of‑custody requirements. This position supports both internal and external laboratory operations, guaranteeing sample integrity from receipt to distribution.

Key responsibilities

• Receive samples and verify that physical specimens match the documented chain of custody.
• Inspect sample condition, including volume, container type, and preservation status.
• Accurately code samples using the My Lims system to enable proper tracking and allocation.
• Prepare and schedule international shipments, ensuring samples arrive in optimal condition for analysis.
• Coordinate sample transfers between ALS sites and external laboratories to meet client requirements.
• Distribute samples to laboratory areas, with a focus on microbiological specimens, to preserve sample viability.
• Monitor and record temperature of equipment used for sample reception to maintain equipment functionality.
• Perform additional tasks as directed by immediate supervisor.

Required profile

• Ability to follow established laboratory procedures and documentation standards.
• Strong attention to detail when handling and inspecting samples.
• Organizational skills to manage sample flow and shipment scheduling.
• Basic understanding of chain‑of‑custody principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with My Lims (Laboratory Information Management System).
• Experience using temperature monitoring equipment for sample storage.
