Ruby Engineer – Backend Systems (API, Rails)

About the role

We are looking for a senior Ruby Engineer to design, build and operate end‑to‑end backend systems. You will own API‑first services, make architecture decisions and ensure performance, scalability and reliability at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Ruby on Rails API services from concept to production.
• Make architecture and data‑modeling decisions, balancing performance, scalability and reliability.
• Own production systems, troubleshoot incidents and drive root‑cause fixes.
• Collaborate with product, design and other engineering teams to deliver high‑quality features.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise overall code quality.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience building backend systems with Ruby on Rails.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate services end‑to‑end.
• Proven experience scaling systems and improving performance.
• Comfortable debugging production issues and leading root‑cause analysis.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Ruby / Ruby on Rails (API‑first development)
• PostgreSQL with query optimization
• Background job processing (Sidekiq or similar)
• RSpec and test‑driven development
• AWS fundamentals (ECS/EKS, S3, RDS, etc.)
• Docker / containerised environments
• API design and best practices
