Academic Director – Upper School (Grades 6‑12)

About the role

Newton College seeks a strategic and inspiring Academic Director to lead the Upper School (Grades 6‑12). The role demands a clear educational vision, high standards in academic excellence, student wellbeing, teaching quality and strong parent liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership for the Upper School, ensuring academic excellence, consistent teaching practice and a high‑quality student experience across the IB continuum.
• Maintain a safe and consistent school environment by promoting holistic wellbeing and rigorously implementing behaviour and safeguarding policies.
• Oversee curriculum alignment, manage teaching performance, analyse academic data and use dashboards to inform decision‑making.
• Communicate clearly with the educational community, fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education with a recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, QTS or equivalent).
• Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum, Educational Leadership or a related field.
• IB training and certifications (PYP, MYP, DP).
• Minimum five years of academic leadership experience in IB schools.
• Proven experience in curriculum alignment, teacher evaluation and academic data analysis.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the IB curriculum and active teaching methodologies.
• Experience with academic data analysis and institutional dashboards.
• Knowledge of evidence‑based assessment and pedagogical quality‑assurance systems.
• Understanding of international educational standards and pedagogical management.
• Strong analytical and data‑driven decision‑making abilities.
