Backend Engineer, AI (Growth)

About the role

Deel is looking for a Backend Engineer focused on AI to help accelerate feature delivery while maintaining high quality and reliability. The role uses AI coding assistants such as Claude as a co‑pilot, enabling rapid development of robust backend services that support Deel’s global payroll and HR platform.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, designers and QA to define requirements and deliver seamless user experiences.
• Leverage AI tools like Claude to generate boilerplate code, scaffolding and initial implementations, then review and refine all AI‑produced code.
• Design, implement and maintain scalable, production‑grade backend services and APIs.
• Ensure code quality, performance, security and reliability across services serving users in 150+ countries.
• Participate in code reviews, testing and continuous improvement of development processes.

Required profile

• Strong fundamentals in software engineering and backend development.
• Experience building and operating scalable services in a fast‑moving SaaS environment.
• Comfortable using AI‑assisted coding tools and critically evaluating generated code.
• Effective communicator who works well in cross‑functional teams.
