Temple Grounds Gardener / Maintenance Supervisor

About the role

The Temple Grounds Gardener ensures that the temple’s outdoor areas reflect beauty, cleanliness, and a sacred atmosphere. This role combines hands‑on gardening with supervisory duties to maintain 8‑14 acres of landscaped grounds, walkways, and facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and care for landscaped areas, sidewalks, driveways, building entrances, and other assigned zones.
• Provide direction and technical assistance to gardeners, volunteers, and third‑party contractors.
• Resolve grounds‑related questions and problems, ensuring safety and aesthetic standards.
• Supervise a grounds crew: hire, train, schedule, and manage performance.
• Oversee watering, fertilizing, mowing, weed and insect control schedules.
• Prune trees and shrubs, remove dead or diseased branches, and control plant growth.
• Remove snow as needed and report building repairs to the engineer.
• Prepare supply and equipment requests and ensure proper use, storage, and maintenance of tools and chemicals.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in landscape gardening, horticulture, agriculture, or grounds maintenance.
• One to two years of supervisory experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb (23 kg).
• Preferred experience working in a temple environment and a degree or certification in a related field.
