Americas Lead Lawyer – Commercial Legal Counsel

About the role

Mace is seeking a pragmatic, commercially‑focused lawyer to lead legal support for its Americas hub. The role will operate autonomously within a highly commercial environment while aligning with Mace Consult’s global governance programme.

Key responsibilities

• Review appointment contracts received with client tenders to identify risks to Mace.
• Negotiate and draft appointment contracts, joint venture agreements, and supply‑chain step‑down contracts.
• Maintain close liaison with commercial teams throughout contract review, signing and ongoing project advice.
• Deliver legal training sessions for commercial colleagues and update precedent documents.
• Assist commercial teams in managing potential disputes and handling insurance notifications.
• Collaborate with Mace’s insurance brokers and, when required, external counsel.

Required profile

• Mid‑level construction or general commercial lawyer, qualified in a relevant jurisdiction.
• 3‑7 years of experience in a legal role within in‑house or private‑practice construction teams.
• Proven ability to conduct risk reviews, negotiate and draft bespoke consultancy appointment documentation.
• Strong understanding of insurance, public procurement law and dispute avoidance.
• Fluent business and legal English, both spoken and written.

Required skills

• Risk review, negotiation and drafting of consultancy appointment contracts, joint venture agreements, LOAs, NDAs, performance bonds, sub‑consultant contracts and collateral warranties.
• Knowledge of insurance processes, public procurement regulations and dispute avoidance strategies.
• Fluent business and legal English (spoken and written).
