Backend Engineer (NodeJS) – Remote (UTC‑6 to UTC‑9)

About the role

Deel is looking for a Backend Engineer specialized in NodeJS to strengthen the core of its global payroll and HR platform. You will design, build, and maintain high‑performance, secure, and reliable backend services that power the experiences of millions of users worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Front‑end Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, and QA to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from discovery and design to deployment and monitoring.
• Develop, document, and maintain robust APIs and backend services that scale with user demand.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve performance bottlenecks, security issues, and bugs.
• Continuously improve code quality, testing practices, and operational reliability.

Required profile

• Proven experience building backend systems in a SaaS environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work autonomously in a fully remote setting.
• Effective communication and teamwork across distributed, multicultural teams.

Required skills

• Node.js (JavaScript/TypeScript)
• Design and implementation of RESTful APIs
• Understanding of database concepts (SQL or NoSQL)
