Senior Applied Data Scientist

About the role

Applaudo Studios, an AI-native company building AI-powered solutions, is hiring a Senior Applied Data Scientist in Lima. The role focuses on building and evaluating machine learning approaches for company and entity matching, using embeddings, LLMs and NLP on messy, large-scale data.

Key responsibilities

• Build and evaluate ML approaches for company and entity matching, including embedding and LLM-based methods.
• Develop scoring and ranking methodologies to distinguish true matches from duplicates, lookalikes and unrelated entities.
• Work with messy data such as names, aliases, domains, websites, firmographic attributes and multilingual records.
• Define benchmark datasets, metrics, baselines and error-analysis processes, then design and run experiments to validate hypotheses.
• Compare LLM-assisted approaches against lower-cost alternatives and analyze model behavior, edge cases and trade-offs.
• Consider inference economics and scalability from the start, and communicate findings to engineering and business stakeholders.
• Independently set up experimental pipelines and document all experiments, successes and failures.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional data science / machine learning experience.
• Strong applied ML fundamentals and hands-on experience with embeddings, semantic similarity, LLMs, classification and NLP.
• Experience retraining or maintaining classification models in production, and strong experimental design and evaluation skills.
• Ability to evaluate model quality, understand scalability and ML inference costs, and communicate clearly in English.
• Nice to have: entity resolution, ranking, retrieval or clustering techniques, Spark, Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery, and experience with multilingual datasets.

Required skills

• Excellent Python and SQL.
• Working knowledge of neural networks and transformer architectures.
• Hands-on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, PyCaret or equivalent ML frameworks.
