Senior Data Engineer

About the role

Alpaca is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to design and build the next generation of its Data Platform. You will work on a high‑volume, low‑latency data stack that powers financial transactions, customer data, API logs, and system metrics for internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve core data platform components such as distributed query engines, orchestration, warehousing, and cataloging.
• Own lakehouse infrastructure as code, deploying resources with Terraform and Ansible on Kubernetes.
• Develop and maintain low‑latency streaming and CDC ingestion pipelines as well as batch ingestion paths landing in Apache Iceberg.
• Scale the BI landscape to support reporting, AI/agent interfaces, and third‑party data sinks.
• Implement data experimentation, cataloging, monitoring, and alerting systems.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building large‑scale data platforms in a cloud environment.
• Strong background in both streaming and batch data processing.
• Proven ability to work autonomously in a fully remote, globally distributed team.
