Startup Engineer – OHV

About the role

The Startup Engineer – OHV will join Wabtec’s field team in Arequipa, Peru, to lead the commissioning and startup of off‑highway vehicle (OHV) systems. The role involves preparing test plans, performing functional checks, documenting results and ensuring safe, high‑quality handover to customers.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute test plans for OHV equipment during commissioning.
• Perform functional checks, troubleshoot mechanical, electrical or control issues, and document outcomes.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications and schematics to guide installation and startup activities.
• Coordinate with project managers, field technicians and cross‑functional teams to resolve issues and optimise system performance.
• Maintain accurate project records, support continuous‑improvement initiatives and assist with customer training and handover.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and quality procedures throughout all field activities.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical or systems engineering for heavy equipment or off‑highway vehicles.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and schematics.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for mechanical, electrical or control systems.
• Knowledge of safety standards and quality procedures in industrial or transportation environments.
• Fluent written and spoken English (mid‑advanced level).
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a technical degree in Electronics, Mechanical or Electromechanical.
• Willingness to work on‑site in mines and support field activities outside standard hours.
• Previous experience in rail or mining sectors is required.
