Consultant – International Environmental Negotiations & Biodiversity Finance

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) seeks a consultant to provide expert analysis and strategic advice for Peru’s participation in COP17. The assignment will focus on reviewing outcomes of SBSTTA‑28 and SBI‑7 negotiations and developing evidence‑based proposals for national positions.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the negotiation outcomes of SBSTTA‑28 and SBI‑7, focusing on biodiversity finance and policy issues.
• Prepare concise, evidence‑based briefing notes and policy proposals for the Ministry of Environment of Peru (MINAM).
• Collaborate with UNEP’s Nature Frameworks Support Unit, the Facilitator in Peru, and MINAM’s General Directorate of Biological Diversity.
• Support the development of strategic positions for COP17, including resource mobilisation and IPBES‑related assessments.

Required profile

• Advanced knowledge of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) processes and the Kunming‑Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
• Experience in policy analysis, biodiversity finance, and international environmental negotiations.
• Proven ability to produce high‑quality analytical reports for government stakeholders.
