Freelance SME – Underground Infrastructure & Electrical Specialist (Metals & Mining)

About the role

As a freelance Subject Matter Expert you will support a major underground mining expansion project in Brazil, bringing deep expertise in underground infrastructure, electrical systems, construction and commissioning. You will work with dss+ and client stakeholders to review procedures, identify safety and operational risks, and deliver practical, industry‑leading recommendations.

Key responsibilities

• Review and evaluate procedures for underground infrastructure, utility systems and medium‑ and low‑voltage electrical distribution.
• Assess isolation, LOTO, energisation and de‑energisation processes, as well as pumping, dewatering and compressed‑air systems.
• Evaluate commissioning, testing, Pre‑Startup Safety Review (PSSR) and Management of Change (MoC) requirements.
• Identify gaps between engineering specifications, construction activities and operational execution.
• Facilitate multidisciplinary workshops and provide recommendations to strengthen operational and safety risk controls.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of experience in mining projects, underground infrastructure, construction or commissioning.
• At least 5 years supporting underground mine infrastructure and related activities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mining Engineering; professional registration preferred.
• Fluent English; Portuguese or Spanish advantageous.
