Instructor/Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice

About the role

Peru State College’s School of Professional Studies seeks an Instructor or Assistant Professor to teach criminal justice and sociology courses. The position includes a 12‑hour teaching load each semester, a mix of on‑campus and online instruction, and active mentorship of a diverse student body.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate criminal justice and/or sociology courses on campus and online (12‑hour load per semester).
• Advise and mentor students, including first‑generation and under‑represented learners.
• Participate in departmental, college, and campus activities.
• Engage in professional development and contribute to the academic discipline.
• Implement effective student‑engagement strategies inside and outside the classroom.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in criminal justice, sociology, or a related field (minimum 15 graduate credit hours in the discipline).
• Experience teaching both online and face‑to‑face courses.
• Commitment to student success, especially for under‑represented populations.
• Eligibility for tenure‑track appointment (terminal degree required) for assistant‑professor level; candidates with a master’s and significant professional experience may be considered for instructor level.
