Mechanic I – On-site

About the role

GE Vernova is seeking a Mechanic I to join its FieldCore team and support the installation, maintenance, and repair of heavy rotating machinery used in power generation. The role is on‑site and involves working closely with supervisors, EHS personnel, and operations staff to ensure reliable and safe equipment performance.

Key responsibilities

• Dismantle, assemble, move and align machinery using hoists, cranes, chain falls and hand/power tools.
• Read blueprints, schematic drawings and technical documentation to determine correct work procedures.
• Handle shipping and receiving of major components, manage inventory and control tools, equipment and supplies.
• Perform material and machine inspections with precision measuring equipment.
• Conduct machining and welding operations to fabricate parts for lab and shop training equipment.
• Determine equipment specifications, prepare parts lists and coordinate purchasing of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic items.
• Load, transport and unload materials, tools and equipment; perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans and drawings.

Required profile

• Willingness to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required.
• Strong focus on safety and ability to follow EHS guidelines.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment with supervisors and operations staff.

Required skills

• Operation of hoists, cranes, pneumatic and hydraulic tools.
• Use of precision measuring devices such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators and laser alignment equipment.
• Blueprint and schematic reading.
• Welding and machining techniques.
• Torque wrench application and material handling.
• Inventory and tool control.
