School Bus Driver Aide

About the role

The School Bus Driver Aide supports the bus driver in providing a safe and supportive transportation environment for students, especially those with special medical or mobility needs.

Key responsibilities

• Operate equipment such as wheelchairs, wheelchair lifts, and tie‑downs to ensure safe transport of students.
• Assist the driver in monitoring and supervising students throughout the journey.
• Administer first aid and medication as directed for medically fragile students.
• Help students load and unload using proper techniques and safety equipment.
• Participate in meetings, training sessions, and prepare documentation on student behavior and incidents.

Required profile

• Prior experience working with special‑needs students is preferred.
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods, follow oral and written instructions, and maintain confidentiality of student records.
• Physical ability to reach, handle equipment, and communicate effectively.
• Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of child development principles and ability to build effective relationships with staff, parents, and administrators.

Required skills

• CPR certification.
• American Red Cross First Aid certification.
• Basic American Sign Language certificate.
• Operation of wheelchair lifts and related transportation equipment.
