Senior Geotechnical Mining Engineer

About the role

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Mining Engineer for employment in Lima, Peru. The role covers geotechnical field investigations, rock blasting observations, material property development, slope and foundation stability evaluation, and coordination of geotechnical results with civil design. It also includes regional projects with other offices and disciplines.

Key responsibilities

• Lead geotechnical field investigations, construction observation and rock blasting observations, collect samples, report daily field operations, review data, perform geotechnical analysis and write reports
• Inspect mining and heavy earthwork projects such as tailing dams, stockpiles, leaching operations, foundations, slopes and tunnels
• Develop soil and rock material properties and evaluate the stability of tailing dam slopes, stockpiles and foundations
• Prepare parts of technical proposals and reports for tailings, stockpiles, leaching operations, storm water facilities and regulatory permits, as well as simpler internal and external documents
• Integrate geotechnical mining evaluations into civil design with other geotechnical, structural, mechanical and electrical designs
• Support construction from the field (design verification, quality checks, blasting, contractor engagement) and from the office by adapting designs to field conditions
• Identify further work within existing projects or for existing clients, and engage in regional projects with other offices and disciplines

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical or Geological Engineering
• 8+ years of related experience, or demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education
• Experience in mining/geotechnical engineering projects
• Preferred: Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or Mining Engineering
• Fluency in English and Spanish

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
• Experience using geotechnical software: GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, Plaxis, Settle3 and MathCAD
