Senior Rust Engineer – Consumer Applications

About the role

We are looking for a senior engineer to lead the design and delivery of Rust‑based backend services that power Kraken’s consumer‑facing trading, payments and crypto experiences. You will set technical direction, own end‑to‑end features and work closely with product leaders to shape the roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Own the architecture and delivery of customer‑facing Rust backend services, making design decisions that will outlive individual features.
• Turn ambiguous, multi‑quarter problems into shipped, measured solutions while breaking work down for parallel execution.
• Deliver features end‑to‑end, influencing both backend APIs and the overall customer experience.
• Partner with product leadership to define roadmaps and own outcomes and metrics.
• Drive cross‑team initiatives, aligning trading infrastructure, platform and other product groups.
• Mentor mid‑level engineers, review designs early and establish reusable patterns and standards.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate development, orchestrating AI‑assisted coding and validation.

Required profile

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience with deep proficiency in Rust, asynchronous programming and distributed systems.
• Proven track record of owning production systems, making architectural decisions and learning from trade‑offs.
• Product‑engineering mindset: shipped features from problem definition through launch and measured impact.
• Experience influencing multiple teams, aligning technical direction and sequencing work.
• Active use of AI in daily development workflow.
