Senior Software Engineer – AI Agent Systems

About the role

The Agent Systems team builds internal AI‑powered agents that automate workflows and make intelligent decisions across Kraken’s internal tools. You will work at the intersection of AI, backend systems, and product engineering to create reliable, production‑grade agents that accelerate internal execution.

Key responsibilities

• Build and ship AI‑driven agent systems that automate internal workflows and decision paths.
• Design and implement inference pipelines that reason over user interactions across multiple internal systems.
• Prototype agent behaviours quickly, then productionize the most valuable ones.
• Architect backend services that integrate with a variety of internal APIs and data sources.
• Define safe, observable, and controllable patterns for agent execution.
• Collaborate with product, infrastructure, and operations teams to identify high‑leverage automation opportunities.
• Improve system speed, reliability, and signal quality as usage scales.
• Contribute to foundational design decisions for a 0→1 agent platform.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building and shipping production software systems.
• Strong backend engineering fundamentals (APIs, distributed systems, data modeling, reliability).
• Experience building full‑stack systems and occasional front‑end work.
• Hands‑on experience with AI/ML systems, large language models, or inference pipelines in production.
• Ability to prototype rapidly while maintaining a clear path to production‑grade architecture.
• Strong systems thinking – able to reason about orchestration, failure modes, and observability.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, 0→1 environments with high ownership.
