Data Engineer – Analytics & ML Platform

About the role

Haystack News is a fast‑growing TV startup delivering local and world news on connected TVs. The Data Engineer will join the founding team to build scalable data pipelines, support analytics, and collaborate with product, marketing and ML teams.

Key responsibilities

• Analyze large data sets to extract insights using statistical tools.
• Collaborate with Marketing, Editorial and Engineering to build datasets, write queries and create dashboards.
• Support data‑tooling improvements and promote data literacy across the company.
• Work with the ML team on feature engineering, A/B testing and model improvement.
• Design, test and implement highly scalable data management and monitoring systems.
• Build high‑performance algorithms, prototypes and predictive models.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional analytics or data‑engineering experience.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL with performance troubleshooting.
• Experience with cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift.
• Proficient in Python, including use of Jupyter notebooks.
• Solid statistical analysis background on large data sets.
• Familiarity with feature engineering and A/B testing for machine‑learning models.
