Technical Support Engineer (Remote, $35K-$50K)

About the role

Mercor is seeking a Technical Support Engineer to join its AI‑focused SaaS team. This remote contract role involves troubleshooting talent‑reported issues, debugging across a modern AI stack, and delivering clear, empathetic support.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate and reproduce talent‑reported bugs, identifying root causes and distinguishing UX friction from system defects.
• Debug across the AI + SaaS stack using telemetry, logs, network inspection, and database queries.
• Triage issues with sound judgment, escalating true engineering problems and resolving others via configuration, prompt refinement, or user guidance.
• Surface systemic patterns and product risks for engineering and product leadership.
• Create documentation and runbooks to reduce repeat incidents and speed resolution.
• Communicate precisely, professionally, and empathetically with users.

Required profile

• Ability to debug web applications.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field from a top‑tier institution, or equivalent experience at a high‑growth tech startup.
• 2–5 years of experience building modern web applications (React, Node, Flask, Next.js) or supporting customers on such apps.
• Comfortable with AI systems, including LLMs, agents, and generative models.
• Experience exploring AI tool behavior (fine‑tuning, prompt chains, chain‑of‑thought debugging, building agents).
• Understanding of model outputs, failure modes, hallucinations, and feedback loops.
• Familiarity with modern AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic) or agent frameworks (LangChain, AutoGPT) is a plus.
