Senior Software Engineer – New Markets (EU)

About the role

Alpaca is looking for a senior full‑stack engineer to design, build and maintain the core brokerage systems that power millions of traders worldwide. You will lead regional recruitment, mentor engineers, and act as the incident commander during EU business hours, ensuring 24/7 reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement highly scalable, mission‑critical brokerage services, including gRPC micro‑services and a React‑based internal UI.
• Enhance middle‑ and back‑office systems, integrate third‑party vendors, and support multi‑currency, multi‑language markets.
• Collaborate with global tech leads, align on architecture, and troubleshoot incidents and bugs.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and drive regional recruitment and engineering culture.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving mindset with proactive attitude.
• Excellent communication skills for cross‑regional collaboration and stakeholder interaction.
• Ability to act as incident commander and lead troubleshooting under pressure.
• Experience working independently in a fully remote, globally distributed team.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Go (or comparable backend language) and experience with gRPC micro‑services.
• Front‑end development with React for internal tools.
• Event‑driven and domain‑driven design of scalable systems.
• Knowledge of financial APIs, multi‑currency transaction handling, and regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with order management, market data processing, and real‑time trade processing.
