Aircraft (H-60) Avionics Technician 3

About the role

The Aircraft (H-60) Avionics Technician 3 is responsible for maintaining, testing, and repairing avionics systems on H‑60 helicopters. The position supports both expeditionary and conventional aviation missions for the U.S. Department of State Air Wing.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect avionics components for defects, loose connections, and wiring issues.
• Test radar, radio, pulse, navigation, autopilot and compass systems using oscilloscopes, digital meters, counters and circuit analyzers.
• Adjust, repair or replace defective parts according to blueprints, schematics and technical manuals.
• Calibrate repaired equipment to prescribed specifications.
• Accompany flight crew for in‑flight adjustments and record post‑flight repair requirements.
• Perform FAR‑required inspections (e.g., 91.411, 91.413) and operate ground stations for air‑to‑station checks.
• Fabricate wiring harnesses and implement avionics upgrades and modifications.
• Provide host‑nation training, oversight of local avionics mechanics and maintenance contractors.
• Assist in developing on‑the‑job training modules and mechanic training programs.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of a 2‑year electronics‑avionics technical school or equivalent military experience.

Required skills

• Avionics inspection and troubleshooting.
• Use of oscilloscopes, digital meters, counters and circuit analyzers.
• Calibration of avionics equipment.
• Wiring harness fabrication.
• Ground station operation for radar and other equipment checks.
• Knowledge of FAR 91.411/91.413 inspections.
• Familiarity with US Army Manual 95‑1, DA‑DOS PAM 738‑750‑751 and US Air Force Technical Orders.
