Substitute Health Aide (School)

About the role
The Substitute Health Aide provides essential health support within a school setting, delivering first aid, medication administration, and basic medical care under the direction of the school nurse. This position ensures student health records are accurate and complies with federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Administer first aid, medication, and specialized treatment to ill, medically fragile, or injured students under supervision.
- Assist the school nurse with health screenings, training sessions, and emergency preparedness.
- Compile and submit required health data, monthly status reports, and incident logs.
- Prepare and maintain health documentation such as school health cards, medical emergency cards, and inventory records.
- Refer students needing further medical attention to the nurse and coordinate follow‑up.
- Conduct pediculosis (lice) screenings for students and staff and report communicable diseases to appropriate authorities.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment, including sinks, counters, cots, and equipment.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, and other school health activities.
Required profile
- Prior experience in a health‑related or clerical support role.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and perform basic arithmetic.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of basic first aid, CPR, and common childhood communicable diseases.
- Capability to work independently, follow oral and written instructions, and make sound decisions in routine and critical situations.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, stoop, kneel, and maintain visual and auditory acuity.
- Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint, Health Physical, Tuberculosis testing.
- Current Standard First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certifications (renewed at least every two years).
