Head Custodian I – Full-Time

About the role

The Head Custodian I is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive environment at Richland Elementary. This full‑time position oversees daily custodial operations, ensures facilities are prepared for classes and events, and supervises a small team of custodians.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange furnishings and equipment for meetings, classroom activities, and school events.
• Clean classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, lunchrooms, grounds, and other school areas.
• Deliver supplies, mail, packages, and furniture to appropriate recipients.
• Provide safety and maintenance information to students, staff, and supervisors.
• Secure facilities and grounds to minimize damage, loss, and liability.
• Supervise one to three custodial staff members, coordinating shift coverage.
• Procure cleaning equipment, supplies, and materials needed for efficient operations.
• Repair furniture and equipment to keep them in safe working condition.
• Participate in meetings and training sessions to stay informed.

Required profile

• Prior custodial experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
• Ability to read and perform basic math for safe use of cleaning chemicals.
• Capability to stand for prolonged periods and follow oral and written instructions.
• Strong written communication for record‑keeping and reporting.

Required skills

• Use of cleaning agents and chemicals.
• Operation of cleaning equipment.
