Backend Crypto Engineer - L1

About the role

Join Payward’s Crypto team to build and maintain the infrastructure that connects Kraken’s platform with a growing ecosystem of blockchains. You will focus on safeguarding client funds while delivering fast, reliable, and secure transaction processing.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate existing systems with new layer‑1 blockchains.
• Design and implement low‑latency, high‑availability, security‑focused applications.
• Develop highly scalable, high‑volume services for deposits, withdrawals, and staking.
• Write reusable, testable, and efficient code.
• Design and optimise database schemas.
• Own, develop, and maintain existing crypto services.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of backend development experience.
• Generalist knowledge of layer‑1 blockchain development.
• Strong backend expertise with TypeScript (Node.js) and/or Rust.
• Deep understanding of cryptographic concepts and scalable application design.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, Temporal, and GNU/Linux environments.
• Proficiency with Git and automated testing frameworks.
• Passion for secure, privacy‑focused blockchain solutions.
• Resilience and adaptability in a rapidly evolving technical landscape.
• Strong AI proficiency is a plus.
