Data Scientist II

About the role

The Data Scientist II joins IPA’s Global Research and Data Science (GRDS) team, providing technical support across the organization’s research portfolio. The role leads end‑to‑end data science projects, applies advanced analytical methods to development research, and serves as a technical reference for internal and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead assigned projects from initiation to delivery, planning tasks, tracking progress, anticipating risks, and reporting status independently.
• Provide high‑quality technical support to country offices, sector programs, public policy teams, and research projects.
• Develop scopes of work, conduct research quality audits, and apply sound technical judgment in advising partners.
• Apply predictive modeling, natural language processing, large language models, and geospatial analysis to concrete research needs.
• Build and maintain SQL and Python data models, analytical pipelines, and software solutions.
• Deliver outputs using SurveyCTO, Stata, R, SQL, Python, and ensure reproducibility through version control and documented workflows.
• Mentor junior staff, conduct code reviews, and translate analytical findings into clear visualizations, briefs, and documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, computer science, economics).
• Relevant experience applying data science methods to research or development contexts.
