Graduate Software Engineer – Python & Cloud

About the role

Canonical is looking for a graduate‑level Software Engineer to develop, test and release improvements to Ubuntu cloud images. You will work remotely with a globally distributed team, collaborating with Ubuntu engineers and major cloud partners to ensure the stability and quality of Ubuntu on public clouds.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate proactively with a distributed team across the Americas.
• Write high‑quality Python code, including unit and functional tests, to add new features.
• Debug issues and produce reliable fixes for Ubuntu cloud images.
• Review code contributions from other engineers.
• Discuss ideas, investigate solutions, and drive best practices.
• Travel 2–4 weeks per year for internal and external events.

Required profile

• Passionate about technology, Ubuntu and open‑source values.
• Curious, flexible, articulate and accountable.
• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, STEM or a related field.
• Extensive experience with Python on Linux.
• Interest or experience in at least two of: Ubuntu system administration, continuous integration, Debian packaging, public or on‑premise clouds.
• Bonus points for active engagement with the open‑source community.
