Mine Director (Production / Planning / Operations) - South America

About the role

Gatesource HR is recruiting a Mine Director responsible for the overall leadership, management, coordination and performance of mining and mineral processing operations. The role covers mining production, processing plant operations, operational planning, technical departments, workforce management and operational compliance, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective execution of mining activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for mining and mineral processing operations.
• Manage and coordinate operational departments, technical units and production teams to keep mining operations safe, efficient and uninterrupted.
• Oversee open pit mining activities, including ore production.
• Foster collaboration between Mining, Geology, Processing Plant, Laboratory, Maintenance and Support departments to meet operational and production targets.
• Direct and monitor operational performance to maximise productivity and output while controlling costs.
• Ensure approved mine plans, production schedules, operational strategies and business objectives are executed successfully.
• Oversee operational budgeting, manpower planning, resource allocation and cost-control initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with production targets, operational plans, commercial obligations and contractual commitments.
• Support operational improvements, modernisation initiatives and productivity enhancement programmes.

Required profile

• Minimum of five years of experience in senior managerial or operational leadership roles in the mining industry.
• Experience managing open pit mining and/or gold processing operations.
• Proven experience managing multidisciplinary operational and technical teams.
• Experience in remote or interior mining operations preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering, Geology, Engineering Management or a related technical discipline; postgraduate qualifications in Mining, Engineering, Business Management or Operations Management are an asset.

Required skills

• Experience with Gravity and/or Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) processing systems.
• Desirable: experience in operational budgeting, production management and business coordination.
• Advantageous: additional training in mining operations management, production planning, occupational safety or industrial leadership.
