Secondary English Teacher (Lower Secondary, IGCSE, IB)

About the role

Cambridge College Lima, an international school in Lima, Peru, is looking for an experienced, student-centred Secondary English Teacher to join its academic team. The post covers English Language and Literature across Lower Secondary, IGCSE and the IB Diploma, working with bilingual students who study English at first language level. The school is part of Inspired Education, a group of premium private schools.

Key responsibilities

• Create a stimulating, inclusive classroom that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, discussion and independent learning.
• Teach English across Lower Secondary, IGCSE and IB Diploma courses, supporting reading comprehension, written composition, textual analysis and oral communication, with attention to the vocabulary and idiom demands of first-language assessment for bilingual learners.
• Assess, monitor and track student progress, giving constructive feedback and using assessment data to inform teaching and intervene when needed.
• Prepare, mark and moderate coursework and internal assessments, including IB Individual Orals, in line with examination board requirements.
• Maintain accurate academic records, reports and documentation, and safeguard the wellbeing of students in line with school policy.
• Build positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues, and contribute to extracurricular activities, school events, trips and initiatives such as debate, Model United Nations, creative writing and the school production.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in English, English Literature, Education or another relevant field, plus a recognised teaching qualification such as QTS or a PGCE.
• Previous experience teaching English at secondary level, ideally in an international or bilingual school.
• Experience delivering Cambridge Lower Secondary English, CIE IGCSE First/Second Language English and/or Literature in English, and/or IBDP English A: Language and Literature or English B; IB workshop training is an advantage and can be provided.
• Practical understanding of how to help second-language speakers reach first-language grades.
• Native or near-native English; Spanish is welcome but not required.
